MATKI MODAK, MOTHBEANS MODAK

Anything you mix with sugar, jaggery, milk, the sweet dish tastes awesome.  Now ganesh festival is ahead, everyone will be trying out new recipes to welcome the Lord, Vinayaka, Vignesh, Vignaharta.  Since i am bored of making the same old green gram modak, coconut modak, urid dal modak, sesame seed modak, tried today the modak with matki and came out very well.  Everyone liked it hence i am sharing with you the recipe.

Ingredients:

For the Poornam, filling

1/4 cup matki
1/4 cup grated coconut
2 cardamoms (powder it)
1/2 cup jaggery
1/2 tsp ghee

For the cover

1/2 cup rice flour
1/2 cup water
a pinch of salt
2 tsp oil

Method;

As usual, you make the modak dough.

clean and soak the matki for 2 hours in water.  drain the water and dry roast the same till crispy.
Powder the same in the mixer.  I made a coarse powder viz. finer than the gun powder.
keep aside.  Now put  the coconut in the mixer and pulse it.  mix along with matki powder.

In another kadai, add little water and jaggery.  melt it.  strain to remove the impurities.
put the same back into the kadai, add the matki, coconut mixer, cardamom powder and cook the same till it starts leaving the sides of the kadai. allow to cool.
when it cools down, make small balls out of it and keep aside.

Normally, after cooking the modak dough, i used to cover and keep it for sometime.  then by applying oil on the palm, i used to knead it well to make it smooth so that while preparing the cover for the modak, it will be very easy.

Now take out some dough and make cover as you make for the normal modak.  place the filling in it, seal it and roll it with your palms.  then place the same in the mould just lightly press down at the end portion of the mould.  close the mould and slightly press it so that it shapes properly.

repeat the process and steam cook for 5-7 minutes.

switch off gas.  allow to cool.  take out the modak and serve or keep for prasad.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING THE BLOG.  YOUR SUGGESTIONS ARE MOST WELCOME.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi.
