Ingredients
Fresh rice flour - 1 cup
Water -1 cup
Oil – 2 tbs
Salt as required
Tempering
2 tbsp Oil (preferably coconut oil)
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Urid dal
Few curry leaves
2-3 Green chilly chopped
3-4 tbsp Grated coconut
A generous pinch of asafoetida
Method
Keep some hot water before preparing the dough. This is kept for a safer side since the absorption of water is fully depends on the quality of rice. Mix the rice flour in the normal water in a kadai and make a batter out of it without any lumps. This is the method I follow. Add salt and oil in it. Keep the kadai on low flame and continuously stir it till you get a nice rice ball leaving the kadai. In case you feel that the water is less, you can always use the hot water kept aside. Do not add cold water.
Allow to cool the same. Then knead the
same well by using little oil on your palm.
Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, urid dal, curry leaves, asafoetida, green chilly. when it is done pour the tempering in the dough, add coconut and mix well. Knead the dough well and make small oblong shaped modaks or ball sized modaks out of it.

Place a banana leaf in the idli mould and keep the
modaks made in it for steaming for 5-7
minutes. When it is cooked, allow to
cool before taking out from the leaf. Prasadam is ready for neivedyam. This can be served as a snack on normal days.
