KERALA STYLE KANJIYUM PUZHUKKUM

Kanji is made out of the Red boiled rice.  Normally the Kanji is served with pure ghee and payaru thoran i.e. Green Chowli, Green Cow pea thoran.  When we were small, we used to make the spoon with the Jackfruit leaf and drink the Kanji.  We also used to serve it along with Vadu mangai or any other pickle available at home.

Today, I prepared the Raw Jackfruit Puzhukku so I thought of making Kanji with it.  In this video, how to make the Jackfruit Puzhukku and the Kanji is explained.

KIWI PULAO

Kiwifruit is one of nature's perfect foods: low in calories, high in energy and an excellent source of antioxidants.  It contains vitamins, potassium, magnesium, zinc and  is antioxidant too.  You can read the benefits derived from this fruit at the end of the recipe.

Kiwi Pulao – Very tasty pulao  made with bell peppers and dry fruits and served with raita, papad etc is yummy in taste.

If you want to make it colourful, you can use the bell peppers otherwise only with onion and tomato, you can make it.

My daughter was not ready to eat kiwi fruit.  Hence I thought of making this pulao with the bell peppers.  If I add only kiwi, then again she might not taste this at all.  It is a very simple and easy recipe provided you have cooked rice and kiwi fruit and bell pepper at home.  Even if bell pepper is not there, you can make it with onion, tomato and the kiwi.

Do try this and give me your feed back.  While preparing this dish, ensure that the kiwi is not overripe one.

CURD RICE WITH AAM RAS

During the mango  jack fruit season, in almost all the South Indian house specially in Kerala, one dish will be with these ingredients.  For dinner, I prepared the curd rice and mango puree.

My father was fond of curd rice and aam ras.  The aam ras prepared by him in a very simple method is a mouth watering dish for us as we also would love to eat it along with him.  You must be wondering how can you eat mango ras with curd rice.  Just try and you will love it.

Aam ras poori is another variety of dish we serve in our house during the mango season in Mumbai.

KICHADI WITH MANATHAKALI LEAVES

Manathakali leaves are having medicinal values so also the manathakali.  My stomach was upset and I do not want to have any heavy food.  I thought of making kichadi for dinner.  When I went to water the plants, saw the manathakali plant which was in my balcony garden.  So I decided to make kichadi with the leaves along with moongdal and rice.  You can also use samai arisi for this.

Since I want to have light food in the night, I prepared this and had it with the Wet Narthangai which I had brought from Nagercoil when we visited one of my husband's colleague there.

Coming back to the recipe, I prepared this for the dinner and served hot with narthangai and roasted papad to my husband.  I just had the kichadi with narthangai and was very tasty.

CARROT RICE

Delhi carrots are still available now and during the season, I prefer to use this carrot.  The English carrot my children do not prefer.

Varieties of rice preparation have been posted in the blog.  I observed that I have not posted the Carrot Rice.  Though my daughter prefer to eat the carrot raw and does not like the cooked one except for carrot payasam, carrot halva.  In pulao also she used to tell me mummy do not put carrot.  One evening when I asked her what to make for dinner, she said carrot rice.  I was happy to make the same.

It is a simple preparation with mild spice  and tasty too.  All children love the same.  We use less spice hence even small childlren in our neighbourhood enjoy our food.

PALAK PULAO

During winter you get almost all the vegetables specially the fresh leafy vegetables.  I always prefer to make the leafy subzi  very simple without much spices and have it with curd rice.

Spinach / palak is rich in folic acid, iron, zinc and antioxidant.   Spinach is packed with nutrients like antioxidants, Vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids and folic acid which are great for your heart. These nutrients will improve the blood flow in your body and prevent your arteries from getting blocked due to bad cholesterol.

Spinach has a very low glycaemic index, which makes it an excellent option for diabetics since it helps stabilize blood glucose levels. It is good for preventing diabetes too by preventing the dysfunction of beta cells that produce insulin.

Spinach is rich in fibre which helps cure constipation. It also has other properties which helps cleanse, rebuild and renew your intestinal tract.
