CURD RICE WITH AAM RAS

During the mango  jack fruit season, in almost all the South Indian house specially in Kerala, one dish will be with these ingredients.  For dinner, I prepared the curd rice and mango puree.

My father was fond of curd rice and aam ras.  The aam ras prepared by him in a very simple method is a mouth watering dish for us as we also would love to eat it along with him.  You must be wondering how can you eat mango ras with curd rice.  Just try and you will love it.

Aam ras poori is another variety of dish we serve in our house during the mango season in Mumbai.

Ingredients:

for the curd rice:

1 cup cooked rice
1/2 cup curd
1/4 cup milk
salt

aam ras

1 mango (alphonso)
1 green chilli
few rock salt

Mehod:

1.  Mash the rice with a laddle very nicely.  Add the curd, milk and mix well. add salt  mix again and keep aside.

2.  Peel the mango and cut into slices.  Put it in blender and make puree out of it or  (2nd method to remove the ras) press the mango with your hand to remove the ras from it.  chop the chilli, take salt in your hand and crush it with your fingers and add to the mango ras. mix well.

3.  Serve the curd rice and the mango ras chilled.

note;  If you wish you can temper the curd rice with mustard seeds, urid dal, hing powder and curry leaves.
