KOLLU VAZHATHANDU ADAI, HORSEGRAM BANANA STEM CREPE

Horsegram and banana stem both are having health benefits which is given separately at the bottom of the recipe.  

I had some kulith which I wanted to finish it off and a small piece of banana stem.  Since I was not in a mood to prepare any subzi, roti or rice, I thought of making the adai with these two ingredients.

I had soaked the rice, kulith early in the morning hence I could grind it in the afternoon by 1.00 pm. and I prepared the adai for lunch.  Watch on you tube:

Ingredients:

¼ cup
Horsegram
¼ cup
Rice
½ cup
Roughly chopped banana stem
Handful
Chana dal
4-5  sprigs
Curry leaves
2
Red chilli
1
Green chilli (optional)
¼ tsp
Black pepper
¼ tsp
Cumin seeds

Generous pinch of asafoetida
2 tbsp
Grated coconut

Salt
Oil
For making the crepe


Method:
 
1.       Soak the kulith, rice, chana dal, red chilli for 4-5 hours



2.       Chop the banana stem roughly
3.       Grind banana stem along with red chilli




4.       Add the rice, kulith, etc and grind coarsely.
5.       Add the curry leaves, coconut , black pepper, cumin seeds and pulse it for a minute
6.       Remove from the mixi container
7.       Add salt, mix well.  batter is ready.







8.       Heat a tava.  In your palm, take the batter and put on the tava and spread it with your fingers.  you can make whole on top of the adai and drizzle the oil on it.  Best tastes with gingelly oil.



  Cook both the sides with oil till brown.  Your kollu vazhatandu adai is read.
How to serve:
 
Serve hot with chutney, sambar or avial  or white butter and jaggery.
 


Note:  If you want, you can add onion while making the adai.

Some alternative medicine experts even consider horse gram as a good remedy to control joints pain. It can be also used as a natural health tonic.    It tones up the digestive system and prevents acidity and flatulence. 

People suffering from spleen enlargement, colic and weak liver can also benefit from this plants medicinal properties. People with kidney stones, hypertension, gall stones also benefit from its intake.
