LASOONI SAMBAR

LASOONI SAMBAR

Lasooni sambar is made with lasoon and masala made out of kopra, onion  and lasoon.  It is not like the normal sambar but resembles the Rasam.    It goes well with rice.

This recipe is shared with me by one of my colleague Mrs. Ranjana Narkar and I liked it very much with hot steaming rice.  Hence sharing with you all.  When you are having a very bad cough and cold, this dish is ideal for you to bring some taste in the taste bud.  She stated that this dish is served  to ladies after delivery as it is healthier for them to have this at that stage.

Let us have a look at the recipe.

For making masala:

2 cups grated kopra
1 medium size onion chopped
5-6 cloves of garlic
1 tsp oil

Heat oil and sauté the onion till it is soft and brownish,  keep aside.
In the same kadai, add the kopra and sauté the same till golden brown.
Sauté the garlic too at the last stage along with the kopra
Cool and grind together all ingredients. Do not add water.  If handled properly and refrigerated, lasts for 10-15 days.

For making sambar:

Ingredients:

1 tsp oil
¼ tsp cumin seeds
A pinch of asafetida
5-6 garlic cloves crushed
1 tsp masala
Salt to taste
1 cup water.
Few curry leaves
Turmeric powder

Method:

Heat oil in kadai, add the cumin seeds.
When it crackles, add curry leaves, asafoetida, crushed garlic cloves, turmeric powder, masala and sauté the same for few minutes.
Now add the water, salt and bring to a boil
Serve hot with steamed rice along with some stir fried subzi or papad.
