MISAL PAV l MUMBAI STREET FOOD l HOW TO MAKE MISAL PAV

Misal pav is a popular dish from Maharashtra, India. It consists of Misal and pav. The final dish is topped with farsan, "farsan" or "sev", onions, lemon and coriander. It is usually served with bread or rolls toasted with butter and buttermilk or curd and papad.

It is any time dish in our family Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, we love it.  Normaly, it is made with Sprouted Moth Beans ie. Matki.

Varieties of Misal : Puneri Misal / Kolhapuri Misal and the spiciness varies from place to place.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Time taken:  1 hour
Serve: 2-3

Ingredients:

To pressure cook for one whistle in medium flame.

1 Cup Sprouted Moth beans / Matki
1/4 Tsp Turmeric
1/2 Tsp Salt
1 Cup Water

For Masala:

2 Tsp oil
1" pc ginger          )
1 Garlic Cloves     ) or 1/4 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
1 Tbsp dry Coconut / Kopra
1/2 Tomato Chopped
1 Small Onion chopped

Others:

2 Tp oil

Few Curry leaves
1/4 to 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 Tsp Coriander Powder
1/2 Tsp Garam Masala
Small piece of Jaggery
1/2 Tsp Salt or as required
2-21/2 cup water

Tempering:

1/2 to 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 to 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
1 Tsp Oil
Curry leaves

Serving:

1 Cup Mix farsan
Lemon 
Chopped Coriander leaves
Chopped Onion

Bread Slices or Pav

Method:

Step 1

Pressure cook in medium heat the Ingredients for one whistle.

Step 2

Heat a teaspoon oil. Fry the coconut till brown, remove to mixer pot.  Put oil and add the onion till brown.  Add the tomatoes and cook till mushy. Grind together the coconut, onion mix to a smooth paste.

Step 3

Heat oil.  Add the tempering items in it.  Add the  ginger garlic paste.  Add the ground paste, cook till dry.  Add the Red chilli powder, Coriander powder, Turmeric powder, mix well. Add the moth beans cooked in it. Add jaggery, salt  and bring this to boil.  Finally, add the Garam Masala, mix well and it  is ready.

How to serve:

Serve hot with Farsan, Chopped onion, coriander leaves, Lime juice.

  1. very well well said,Indian food is always very relishing and it is full of spices and herbs.whenever I come to india I always prefer to have street food. I always love to try out various food joints in the city.Recently i have discovered some places to eat in amritsar.My experience was outstanding and I enjoyed my food.
