Avarakka / Flat beans kootu is a simple side dish made for Chapati / Rice. Easy to prepare and tasty too.
Normally, we prepare stir fry subji or with Tomato,Onion. Today I tried this Kootu and was paired with Chapati.
FLAT BEANS KOOTU l FLAT BEANS CURRY l AVARAKKA KOOTU
Let us look at the recipe now:

Serves : 2
Ingredients:
100 gms Flat Beans
1/4 cup Masoor dal
Salt
Turmeric Powder
3 Petals of Kokum or 1 Tbsp Tamarind pulp
Masala:
2 Tbsp Coconut grated
1 Tsp Bengal Gram / Chana dal
1 Tsp Coriander Seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
1 - 2 Red Chilli (make it bit spicy) add more chilli.
Pinch of Asafoetida
Tempering:
1 tsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Urid dal
Few curry leaves
Method:
Step 1
Cut the Flat beans into small pieces. Roast the Coriander/Bengal Gram/Red chilli in one tsp of oil. Add the asafoetida. Cool and grind to a smooth paste with coconut.
Step 2
Cook the Masoor dal with 1 cup of water. When it is half cooked, add the Flat beans. Allow to cook them. Put the Kokum petals in hot water and squeeze out the juice. Add this to the cooked dal and vegetable. Add salt, turmeric powder.
Step 3
Add the ground paste to the vegetable, mix well and bring to boil.
Step 4
Temper with the ingredients.
How to serve:
Serve Hot with Chapati, rice.
