Snake gourd chutney, padval chutney, podalangai chutney, padavalanga chutney

Chutneys are accompaniments for dosa, idli, chapati, dal rice, curd rice and can be spread on bread for making sandwiches too.  varieties of chutneys are made.  Here i am presenting Snake Gourd chutney which is very easy to make.

Snake gourd chutney




Ingredients:

2 tbsp urid dal
1 red chilli
1 green chilli
2" long tender snake gourd
2 tbsp grated coconut.
1 small tomato chopped
salt
asafoetida
1tsp oil
little bit of tamarind and jaggery (optional)

Seasoning:

1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
2 broken red chilli pieces
curry leaves.

Method:

wash and cut the snake gourd into small pieces.  do not remove the seeds as it is very tender, you can use it.
heat oil in kadai add the urid dal, red chilli and fry the same.  add the chopped snake gourd pieces and saute the same for 3-4 minutes.  Now add the tomatoes and saute till it is soft. allow to cool



Now add the other ingredients with the sauted snake gourd and grind to a fine paste by adding little water.   consistency can be adjusted according to your taste and wish.

season with the items mentioned under seasoning.

It can be served with idli, dosa, chapati, with dal rice too
