BANANA STEM CHUTNEY, VAZHATHANDU CHUTNEY, KELE KI DANDAL KI CHUTNEY

Banana stem chutney is made with the the cooked stem or sauted stem, coconut and chilli.  It is a nice chutney goes well with dosa, idli, and a a side dish for some mild curries like dal, molagootal and curd rice.  Since it has got medicinal values, i make it a point to include the same atleast once in a week as it is available through out the year.

Let us have a look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup chopped banana stem
1 red chilli
1 green chilli
2 tsp urid dal
2 tsp oil
a small piece of tamarind
a small piece of jaggery (optional)
a pinch of asafoetida
salt

Method:

wash the banana stem and saute the same in one tsp oil or pressure cook the same for one whistle.
heat oil in kadai, fry the urid dal and red chilli
Now mix all the ingredients in a mixer and grind to a fine paste.  You can make it little watery by adding water.

If you wish you can temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves.

serve with dosa, idli, rice etc.

a teaspoonful of sesame seed oil, chutney and hot white rice mixed is yummy.
