THANDAI

Thandai is basically made with almonds, pistachios, milk and sugar.  This is a summer cooler and healthy too. It is associated with festivals viz. Mahashivaratri and Holi  and we used to gulp this chilled drink.  It is quite tasty especially when it is made with raw milk.   It is heavenly when the temperature soars and cools you down.

 My friend has shared this recipe with me which I am sharing with you all and am sure  will definitely like it.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1/2 Ltr cow milk
8-10 badams
15-18 black pepper corns
7-8 pistachios
6-8  elaichi pods
4 tbsp khus khus
4-5 tbsp saunf (green)
1 tsp rose water
2 pinch of kesar food colour
dried  rose petals
few strands of saffron

100 gms sugar

Method:

soak the almonds, pistachios,  separately overnight.
soak the black pepper corns, elaichi pods, khuskhus saunf  also overnight.
next day remove the skin of the almonds and pistachios.
with little milk, grind all the ingredients to a fine paste.
mix the kesar food colour in milk and add to the thandai.
add this in the raw  milk and refrigerate the same for 4-5 hours or overnight.
soak saffron in little hot milk or water.  crush the rose petals or powder it as you wish.
strain it and serve chilled with rose petals on top or can mix this too with it.
