NENDRAN PAZHAM PULISSERY, COCONUT, CURD BASED BANANA CURRY

Nendran pazham pulissery is a coconut, curd based curry which goes well with plain rice, idli, dosa, adai, sevai etc.  I like to have it with chapati too.  We can replace the pazham (banana) with pineapple, ripe mango.  I even make this with vegetables viz. drumstick, ash gourd and mango.  During the mango season, almost every second day,we used to make it as we all used to love this curry along with plain rice (red boiled rice) especially.  It is very easy to make, enjoy it.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1 Nendran pazham (During mango season replace with Ripe Mango)
1/2 cup Yoghurt
1/4 cup Grated coconut
1 Green chilli (increase spice as per your requirement)
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 tsp Salt
a small piece of Jaggery
8-10 Black pepper
1/4 tsp Cumin seeds

Seasoning:

1 tsp oil preferably Coconut oil
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 or 2 Bhor mirch or the normal red chilli broken into pieces
Few curry leaves
1/4 tsp Methi seeds.

Method:

Step 1

Peel the banana and cut into roundels.

Cook the same with 1/2 cup water, Salt and Turmeric powder.  In the meantime, grind the Coconut, Green chilli, Black pepper, Cumin seeds to a smooth paste.  Add this to the cooked banana, add the jaggery and bring to boil. Remove from gas and add the beaten curd. Adjust salt.

Step 2

Temper with the items mentioned for seasoning.

How to serve:

Serve with Plain Rice, Idli, Dosa, Sevai, Adai etc.

Note:  You can make this with Veggies, Ripe mango, Pineapple etc.
