Cabbage contains Vitamin A, C B-6 and can be used in Raw Salads, Kootu, Thoran etc. Many studies suggested that consumption o plant based foods like cabbage decreases the risk of diabetes, obesity, heart disease. It also helps in promoting a healthy complexion, increased energy and overall lower weight.
Many people like it raw in the form of salad. Today I made the Thoran i.e. a dry subzi which is served as side dish for sambhar, rasam rice and for roti, chapati too.
Let us look at the recipe now:
Time taken :Total 30 minutes
Serves: 2-3
Ingredients:
Cabbage - 250gms
Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
Green chilli - 1 small
Onion - 1 (optional)
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt as required
Moongdal - 1 tbsp
Onion chopped - 1 (optional)
Tempering:
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Urid dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Red chilli pieces - 1 or 2
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Garnishing:
Chopped coriander leaves.
Method:
Step 1
Wash and chop the cabbage. Heat Kadai, put oil and put the tempering items. (If you are using onion, add at this time, saute till translucent then add cabbage) When it crackles,add the chopped Cabbage, Salt, Turmeric powder, soaked Moongdal. Mix well, cover and cook.
Step 2
Grind the coconut, green chilli, coarsely. Add to the cooked cabbage and stir.
How to serve:
Serve hot with any rice varieties viz. Sambhar rice, Rasam Rice, Chapati, Phulka etc.
