Raw Banana pulikootu is a lip smacking curry served along with Steamed rice, Rasam Rice and I had it with Chapati. It is sweet, sour and spicy dish which everyone will like and it is very easy for the Bachelors to prepare.
You can use Mix vegetables or Raw Banana or Brinjal for preparing this dish. If you wish, you can add some peanuts also while preparing.
I made this Kootu with Raw Banana in a simple way.
Let us look at the recipe now:
Ingredients:
Raw banana - 1/2
Tamarind Pulp - 1 tbsp
Turmeric - a generous pinch
Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp
Sambhar Powder - 1 tsp
Cooked dal - 2 tbsp (Tuvar or Moong)
Salt
Jaggery - a small piece
Black Pepper - 1/4 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Black pepper - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
Tempering:
Oil - 2 tsp (you can use gingelly oil or any normal oil you use at home)
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urid dal - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp (optional)
Curry leaves
Grated coconut - 1 tbsp
Asafoetida - a pinch (optional)
Method:
Step 1
Wash, peel and cut the banana into small cubes. Cook the dal separately or soak it for one hour and cook along with raw banana. Crush the Black pepper and cumin.
Step 2
In a vessel add one cup of water and put the raw banana and moong dal. If you are using cooked dal, cook the raw banana with salt, turmeric, red chilli powder, sambhar powder, black pepper and cumin till soft. Now add the tamarind pulp, jaggery, moong dal and cook the same for 5 minutes.
Step 3
Heat oil in kadai. Put the tempering item except coconut when the tempering items crackles, add the coconut and fry till golden brown in colour. Add to the Kootu.
How to serve:
Serve with Steamed rice, rasam and the kootu or can be served with chapati also
