COLACASIA STEM PACHADI (COLACASIA STEM CURRY)(CHEMBU THANDU PACHADI)

Colacasia stem curry can be served as a main dish with white rice, roti, chapati.  It can be served as a side dish for molagootal rice, dal rice etc.  Yesterday I purchased some colacasia leaves for making Patra when my aunty visited our house yesterday.  After removing the stem, I remembered my mother making this pachadi so thought of making this dish.  



total time taken: 30 minutes
serves : 2

Ingredients:

1/4 cup chopped colacasia stem
1/2 cup thin tamarind water
a generous pinch of turmeric powder.
salt

For making paste

1/4 cup grated fresh coconut
2 green chilli
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1 tbsp jaggery

Tempering:

1 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
3-4 broken red chilli pieces
few curry leaves

Method:

wash and peel the colacasia stem.
when you peel the skin, you get greenish white colour stem out of it.
chop them finely.


in a vessel add the chopped pieces, tamarind water, turmeric powder and salt and cook the same till it is tender.

Now grind the coconut, green chilli, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and jaggery to a fine paste.
when the stems are cooked, add the ground masala in it and bring to a boil, remove from gas.
Now temper with the ingredients mentioned under the tempering.

How to serve:

serve hot with rice, chapati, roti, curd rice etc.
