MANGO RASAM

Mango rasam is very flavourful and tasty along with steamed rice, papad, beans poriyal or cabbage thoran.  When I made it, I was thrilled as it was very very tasty and decided to post the same to share with you all.  In fact, I made use of the GUTLIS, in a way, best out of waste recipe.  It is very simple, easy to make.

Let us look at the recipe now:
Ingredients:

2 mango gutlis or 1 whole mango
1 tsp rasam powder
a pinch of turmeric powder
1/2 tomato chopped.
a small piece of tamarind.
1 tsp sugar (optional, depending upon the sweetness of mango add or do not add)
salt

tempering;

1 tsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
less than 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
curry leaves
a bhor mirch
a pinch of asafoetida

Garnishing:

chopped coriander leaves


Method:

Peel the mangoes, chop them and boil along with the gutli or boil the gutlis in 1 cup water .  cool and squeze out the pulp from the gutli.  Put them in mixer and pulse it for a minute, keep aside.
Boil one cup water with the tamarind.  add the tomatoes let it cook for 2 minutes. add the mango puree in it. add haldi powder, salt, another cup of water, rasam powder, salt, sugar  and simmer.  do not boil the rasam.
finally temper with the ingredients mentioned under tempering.  garnish with chopped coriander leaves and hot with rice.
