CABBAGE THORAN

Cabbage thoran is made with cabbage as main ingredient which is served as a side dish.  It is a very simple preparation and hardly takes 5 minutes to cook.  Add coarsely ground coconut with red chilli and cumin seeds, a lovely dish for chapati, side dish for sambar, rasam rice.

Preparation time: 10 minutes.
cooking time: 5 minutes
serves : 2


Ingredients:

1 cup cabbage chopped
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
1 red chilli broken
2 tsp oil
few curry leaves
a pinch of asafoetida
a pinch of turmeric powder
salt
1 - 2  tbsp grated coconut

Method:

remove the leaves of cabbage and wash.
chop them finely.
heat oil in kadai
add the mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli when it splutters, add the asafoetida, curry leaves.
now add the chopped cabbage.  sprinkle little water, add turmeric powder, salt and mix well.
cover and cook for 5 minutes or cook openly or 5 minutes.  I do not overcook them as I like kucha,pakka.garnish with grated coconut and serve hot.

TIPS:  you can add little bit of red chilli powder while cooking or alternatively, just pulse the coconut and green chilli for a second in the mixer and add to it.  while doing so, you have to stir the same while it is on the gas stove.
