RIDGE GOURD PEEL CHUTNEY

I have already posted so many varieties of chutneys.  Now I am presenting you a simple and easy, tasty chutney with ridge gourd  peel.  Ridge gourd is very soft and tender when you remove the peel.  We can make the chutney out of this also.  But I made with the peel.  It goes well with idli, dosa, plain rice, dal rice etc.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1 Onion sliced
peel of one ridge gourd
1 tbsp urid dal
1 green chilli
1 red chilli
1 tsp oil
a pinch of asafoetida
salt
a small piece of tamarind
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.


tempering:

1 tsp urid dal
1 tsp mustard seeds
few curry leaves
1 pc broken red chilli

Method:

Heat oil in a kadai, add the urid dal and fry the same till brown, keep aside,  add the red chilli and fry it. add the onion and saute the same.  add the ridge gourd peel and saute till soft. allow to cool.  mix all other ingredients with the sauted ingredients and grind to a smooth paste by adding water.  temper with mustard seeds, urid dal, curry leaves if you wish or use as it is.


Note: adjust the spice level according to your requirement.
