IDLI BHEL

Idli bhel can be made as a chaat  item.  I had prepared dahi  idli chaat, idli fry, idli upma, idli chole chaat with left over idlis and the bhel is another  interesting chaat  item which everyone will enjoy specially children.

You are always having the simple ingredients at home so it is not a big issue to prepare this dish.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Preparation time:  15 minutes
Cooking time:  30 minutes
Yield: 2-3 person.

Ingredients:

6 idlis
¼ cup roasted peanuts or fry the peanut after frying the idli
1 tbsp roasted gram (spiced one) optional
1 cup bhel kurmura
Oil for frying idli

Chutney:

Sweet chutney – as required
Green chutney – as required
Theeka chuntey – as required

Others

2 onions finely chopped
1 big tomato finely chopped
1 potatoe boiled and mashed
Black salt
Chaat masala
Roasted Cumin powder

Garnishing:

Nylon sev as required
3-4 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
3-4 tbsp pomegranate seeds (optional)

Method:

Keep the idli in the fridge so that it becomes bit hard.  Cut into small cubes and fry them till brown.  Should not be very crisp (I fried it very crisp as my children wanted that way).  Keep aside.

In a mixing bowl put the idli, kurmura, half onion, tomato, potatoe and mix well.  Now add the sweet chutney, green chutney, theeka chutney, (red chutney)  chaat masala, black salt, cumin powder and mix it.

Plate it and top it with little onion, tomato, sev, peanuts, roasted spiced gram.  Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, pomegranate seeds.  Your idli bhel is ready to serve.

How to serve:

Serve immediately.

Note:  You can also use tomato ketchup, chilli sauce etc. instead of chutneys.
instead of sev, you can also add Nadiyadi Bhusa which is available in the store ready made.
