Aloo matar is an easy preparation when you have sudden guests provided you have green peas in the fridge. Aloo is always available at any time. You can make it dry, with rasa means in gravy too.
Goes well with chapati, roti, phulka. It is a very simple preparation and will be liked by all.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup peas
1 big aloo
salt
Masala
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
less than 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Optional
1 green chilli
1tsp fresh cream
1 tsp almond or cashew powder
grinding:
1 onion chopped
1 tomato chopped
1/4 tsp ginger paste
1/4 tsp garlic paste
Tempering:
2 tsp oil
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
a pinch of asafoetida
garnishing:
chopped coriander leaves
Method:
Peel and cut the aloo into cubes. grind the items mentioned under grind and keep aside. Heat oil in a kadai. add cumin, asafoetida and allow to sizzle. add the ground masala, cashew or almond powder in it and stir till the raw smell goes and the oil is released. add the aloo, green peas, salt, haldi powder, red chilli powder, stir for few minutes. add two cups water, cover and cook the same till the aloo and peas are soft cooked. slit the green chilli and add. adjust water according to the thickness of the gravy you want. add the garam masala, stir well and switch off gas. garnish with chopped coriander leaves. add the cream before serving.
How to serve:
serve hot with poori, chapati, phulka and rice.
Note:
You can also fry the aloo and then add to the curry at the time of adding green peas.
