BREAD, SEMIYA UPMA

Bread semiya upma can be  made very easily and tasty too.  I had 4 slices of bread and 1/3 cup of semiya lying in the packet.  If I make bread upma, it is not going to be sufficient for two and if semiya that it is also not sufficient.  So decided to mix both these little ingredients available with some veggies, it was sufficient for two for the breakfast.

You can try mix match like we do for cloths,  in food preparation also.  adding vegetables makes it more tastier.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

4 slices of brown bread
1/3 cup semiya
2 tbsp dosa milagi podi
salt

Vegetables:

1 small carrot grated
2 tbsp cabbage chopped lengthwise
1 onion finely chopped

Tempering:

3 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urid dal
1 green chilli chopped
few curry leaves
a pinch of asafoetida

Garnishing:

2 tbsp grated coconut
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.

Method:

Boil 2 cups water with one tsp oil and 1/2 tsp salt.   Put the semiya in it, cook till it is tender. ensure that you do not over cook.  strain it and run through cold water, keep aside.

Make small pieces of bread. keep aside.  Heat oil in kadai.  add the mustard seeds, urid dal.  when it is done add the green chilli, curry leaves, asafoetida, saute for few seconds. now add the onion  and cook till  transparent.  now add the grated carrot, cabbage, salt, mix well and saute for two minutes.  add the bread pieces, semiya mix well.  No need to add water as the mositure in semiya is sufficient enough to soften the bread.

cover and cook for two minutes.  add the dosa milagai podi, mix well. switch off gas and keep covered for two  minutes. Your bread semiya upma is ready to serve.

How to serve:

serve hot garnished with coconut and coriander leaves with chutney, sambar
