POHA CORN BALLS

Poha corn balls were very tasty and liked by everyone at home as well as my friends.  First time I made it when I had  made Kande Pohe.  The poha soaked was in excess so I had to keep aside a cup of it.  Was wondering what to do with it and tried with corn and bit tuvar dal and was quite successful in making the same.

I made it for the second time on 28th November 2014 for my neighbour Anjali & Rahul's  wedding anniversary.

This is a kids friendly recipe as kids will love to eat this.  You can serve this as starter too.   So when you are having Kitty party, next time, you can try your hand on this.

You can prepare the same instantly provided you have corn  in stock in the fridge.  or else you can put some par boiled vegetables like beans,  carrots  etc.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1 cup poha soaked
1/4 cup fresh corn
3-4 green chilli
firstful of tuvar dal
1 onion finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves (optional)
2 tbsp grated coconut or coconut bits (optional)
a small piece of ginger (optional) grated
1 medium size potato boiled and mashed (optional)
3-4 tbsp bread crumbs (optional)
1 tbsp broken cashews (optional)
salt
oil for frying

Method:

wash and soak the tuvar dal for 30 minutes.  drain it and grind coarsely with  green chilli, grated ginger.  crush the corns in mixer. do not grind to a paste.  now mix all the items and make a dough out of it.  In the meantime, heat oil in kadai.  make small balls out of the dough and deep fry.  transfer it on a tissue paper.   serve hot with sauce, chutney.

NOTE:  you can skip mixing the bread crumbs.  make the balls and coat with the bread crumbs and deep fry.  You can also make rolls and wadas and fry.

another option is to make poha pidi  kozhukattai out of it.  In this case, do not use the bread crumbs.
