WOOD APPLE RICE, BEL FRUIT RICE, ELEPHANT APPLE RICE, MONKEY FRUIT RICE

We all prepare lemon rice, curd rice, dill rice, vegetable rice, mango rice, amla rice, tomato rice,  pulao and the varieties are endless.  Here is another variety of rice with wood apple.  Since I purchased a wood apple which was raw and was tasting sour, I decided to make wood apple chutney, wood apple pachadi , wood apple juice etc.  Here I am presenting the wood apple rice recipe.  It tastes like lime rice since it has got the sourness in it.







Let us look at the recipe now.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup rice
1/4 portion of wood apple pulp
salt
turmeric powder

Tempering:

3 tbsp sesame seed oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
1 tsp chana dal
2 tbsp peanuts
1 red chilli broken into two pieces
1 green chilli cut into 3-4 pieces
3-4 pieces of coconut cut into small bits or grated coconut.
few curry leaves
asafoetida

garnishing:

few chopped coriander leaves.

Method:




Cut the wood apple with a strong knike into two pieces.



scoop out the pulp from it.  I used one wood apple to make four varieties of dishes by dividing into four parts as my family members do not eat this.



Wash and cook the rice.  The grains should be separate.  Cook the wood apple pulp in water for 5 minutes.  allow to cool, then grind to a smooth paste and keep aside.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add the mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, peanuts, coconut bits and fry them till colour changes, add the curry leaves, asafoetida, broken red chilli and cut green chilli,saute for a second, add the pulp in it, add in salt and turmeric powder and saute the same till it reduces little bit.  add the rice, mix well. garnish with coriander leaves and   serve hot with wood apple chutney or any kind of chutney, raita, wood apple pachadi etc.
