MAMBAZHA PULISSERY l RIPE MANGO YOGHURT BASED CURRY

Mambazham means Ripe Mango.  This is a Yoghurt based curry goes well with steamed rice.  During the Mango season, we enjoy this dish atleast twice in a week.  Somewhat similar recipes are the Moru kootan, Rasakalan etc.

Let us look at the recipe now:





Time taken: 30-45 minutes
Serves: 2-3



Ingredients:

1/2 Cup Madras Cucumber/Vellarikka (optional)  You can also add Drumstick in it.
1 Small Ripe Mango
1/4 to1/2 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
Small Piece of Jaggery
Salt

For the Gravy:

1/2 Cup Grated Coconut
1-2 Green Chilli
 1/2 Tsp Cumin Seeds

Tempering:

1Tsp Oil
1 Tsp Mustard seeds
1 Red chilli broken
Few Curry leaves

Others:

1/2 Cup whisked curd

 Method:

Step 1

Peel the Cucumber and cut into cubes.  Peel the mango and cut into slices.

Step 2

In a cup of water, cook the cucumber.  When it is cooked, add the mango pieces, turmeric, salt, red chilli powder, jaggery and cook till the mango is soft.

Step 3

Grind the items mentioned under gravy to a smooth paste by adding water.  Add this to the cooked mango, mix well and bring to boil.  Switch off gas.

Step 4

Mix the curd in the pulissery, temper with the ingredients mentioned under tempering.

How to serve:

Serve hot with Steamed Rice, Adai, Idli, Dosa etc.
