JACKFRUIT SEED MANGO CURRY l CHAKAKURU MANGA CURRY l SOUTH INDIAN CUISINE

During summer we get Jackfruit, Mango and we make use of these two fruits raw as well as ripe to make various dishes.  One such dish is the Jackfruit seed Mango curry.

It tastes good with Steamed rice, Papad and Mango Pickle.




Let us look at the recipe now:

Time taken: 30-45 mts
Serves: 2 -3

Ingredients:


Vegetables:

5 Jackfruit seeds crushed and skin removed
Small Mango or a portion of big mango
1 Drumstick

50 gms White Pumpkin 


1/4 Tsp Turmeric Powder

 Masala: 

1/4 to 1/2  cup Coconut
2 - 3 Garlic  cloves
1 Onion chopped
1Red Chilli roasted
less than 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds fried.
1 Tsp oil

Tempering:

1 Tsp Oil
1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
Pinch of Fenugreek Seeds
1 Red chilli piece
1 Sprig Curry leaves
Pinch of Asafoetida

Others:

A small piece of Jaggery

Method:

Step 1

Cut the Drumstick / Mango.  Boil water and add the Drumstick and jackfruit seeds.  Let it cook for sometime. Then add the white pumpkin.  Add Turmeric Powder, Salt.  When it is fully cooked, add the mangoes and cook till soft.

Step 2

Grind together the roasted red chilli, fenugreek, coconut, onion, garlic to a smooth paste.  Add the jaggery.  Add this to the cooked vegetable and boil till the raw taste of garlic and onion goes off. 

Step 3

Temper with the ingredients mentioned under tempering.

How to Serve:

Serve hot with plain steamed rice.
