GUAVA CURRY, AMROOD KI SUBZI

Since so many days, I wanted to make the subzi out of it but could not do so as I am very fond of guavas especially the raw ones.  As soon as see them, I lose my control and eat it with salt and red chilli powder. so also my children hence never got the chance to try subzi out of it.  Today, my brother and family visited within a short notice of time.  Was wondering what to do?  I made dosa, some rasam and this subzi which was liked by them.

Here the recipe for you to try and enjoy.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

250 gms guavas ( not raw but not ripe)
1 tsp coriander powder
3/4 red chilli powder
1 green chilli
2 tomatoes
a generous pinch of dalchini powder
2 cloves
1 elaichi
1 tsp garam masala
salt
2 tsp ghee or butter
1 tsp cumin seeds
a pinch of turmeric powder
10 cashes broken
2 tbsp kishmish
 3 tbsp fresh curd

Method:

Wash and cut the guavas.  remove the seed part.  remaining parts of the guavas, cut into medium size pieces, keep aside.  Boil a cup of water and put the seed portion of the guavas in it and cook till it is very tender.  After cooking, cool, mash with hands and pass through a sieve to extract the pulp.  This will help in thickening the gravy.

Heat one tsp butter roast the cloves.   cut the tomatoes  and grind together with cloves, elaichi and dalchini powder.  add the balance butter  in the kadai. Add the cumin seeds, when it is done, add the chopped green chilli, saute for few seconds.  Add the tomato puree, curd mix well and cook for few minutes till the raw smell of tomato reduces.  Now add the masalas, saute for few minutes.  add the guaga pieces and saute for another three minutes.  add the cashew, raisins masalas and saute for another few minutes.  cover and cook till the guava pieces are soft. add the guava pulp, required amount of water and cook for another five minutes.  add sugar, mix and switch off gas.

The curry should be  Sweet, Sour and Spicy.  Serve along with chapati, roti, puri and even with dosa it tastes good.  I served with Dosa.

Adjust spices according to your taste.
