TOMATO SAAR

One of my colleague always used to bring this tomato saar as she loves it along with the steamed rice and ghee.  For lunch, even I used to enjoy.  When I asked her the recipe, she was ready to share the same with me.

Tomato saar is made with tomatoes, coconut and spices.  This can be served as a soup and with steamed rice too.  You will need fully ripe tomatoes for this.  Very easy to prepare and  quite appetizing.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

3-4 medium, fully ripe tomatoes
2 small onions
1 small piece of ginger
3-4  garlic cloves
1/4 tsp chilli powder
1/4 to 1/2 cup grated coconut
sugar and salt as per requirement.

Tempering:

1-2 tsp ghee
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
a generous pinch of hing powder
4-5 curry leaves
1 red chilly

Optional Ing.

2-3 cloves
2-3 black pepper
1 small piece of dalchini
1-2 cardamom

Garnishing:

1-2 tsp chopped coriander leaves.

Method:

Boil water.  put the tomato, onion, ginger and garlic cloves.  When it becomes soft, switch off flame, allow to cool.  remove the skin of tomatoes.  If you are adding the optional ingredients, put them while boiling the tomatoes.

Put the above ingredients in mixer along with grated coconut and make paste of it. add water according to the consistency required.  add sugar, salt, chilli powder and bring to boil.

Heat ghee in kadai.  add the ingredients mentioned under tempering.  when it is done, add the chopped coriander leaves, pour them in the saar.  Serve hot with steamed rice.

Hope you will enjoy this tomato saar since it is winter time and one hot bowl of saar will definitely satisfy your taste bud.
