KARELA RAITA, BITTER GOURD RAITA

Bitter gourd raita is made out of bitter gourd and onion.  It is a simple preparation and tasty rice and I liked it with chapati too.  Bitter gourd has got many health benefits.

When I asked my husband what to make with karela as he loves the stuffed karela, bitter gourd pickle,  pitla, fried , bitter gourd fry, etc. he told me put it in curd and give me.  He loves to have it in that way.   What I have to do is chop them very finely, add salt and then add the curd. keep it for sometime and serve.

When he said that I said will raita out of it.  He was too happy to have it when I made as it was tasting very nice with rice.



Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1 Medium size bitter gourd
1onion
1 cup curd
salt
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (Optional)

Masalas

1/4 tsp chaat masala
1/4 tsp dhania powder
1 tsp dosa milagai podi
1/4 tsp red chilli powder

a pinch of cumin powder

Tempering:

1 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
a pinch of hing powder

Garnishing:

chopped coriander leaves 

Method:

Wash and finely chop the bitter gourds.  If seeds are tender, do not remove.
chop the onion too finely.
In a kadai, heat oil.
add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds.
when it is done, add the hing powder
add the chopped onion
saute for two minutes
add the chopped karela also
add bit salt, turmeric powder (if u are using)
saute till the bitter gourd is soft.

Beat the curd in a bowl.
add the masalas,salt and the karela
mix well
garnish with chopped coriander  laves.

Suggestion to Serve:

Serve with rice, pulao and roti.

Preparation time:  20-30 minutes.
cooking time: 15 minutes
serves: 2 to 3
