INDIAN GOOSEBERRY RICE (AMLA RICE, NELLIKKA SADAM, AVAL BAATH)

Gooseberry is rich sourc of vitamin C.   It controls diabetis as such one gooseberry in a day is given to my husband in the morning.  It can be preserved in salt water and start using it within a week.  pickles, chutney, sweet pickle, candies etc. can be made with this.    It also has gallic acid, tannic acid, sugar, albumen, calcium, protein, phosphorus, carbohydrates, irons etc.  It has got several medicinal values.

Gooseberry rice is another variety of rice preprations.  If you have cooked rice, then the process of making the rice is easy.  Otherwise, you need little extra time to cook the rice.

PUMPKIN PARIPPU PODI SADAM (RICE

Pumpkin parippu podi sadam is  made with plain rice and mixed with the parippu podi in it with seasme oil or ghee.  Parippu podi is normally made with tuvar dal, red chilli black pepper asafoetida etc.  There are variation in making this podi.  Some peope also add kollu i.e. kulith or horsegram it is known as.

Here I tried thesame with pumpkin seeds as it has got many health benefits.  Parippu podi is handy when you are lazy to cook sometimes.  Just make plain rice and add the podi in it with ghee or oil and serve with roasted papad.

TOMATO RICE

Tomato rice is prepared with plain rice and the tomato paste.  tomato paste is made with onion and tomato with red chilli powder in it.   How to make tomato paste: tomato paste.  We make various kind of rice  - lime rice, coconut rice, puliyodare, etc.

Tomato rice is one of the favourite dish in my house as my children prefer it any time.  It is very easy to make even if you do not have the tomato paste with you.

We need fully ripe red tomatoes for this then only the colour of the same will look beautiful and attractive.  So while choosing tomato for the tomato rice, kindly keep this in mind.

LIME RICE (ELUMICHAI SADAM)

Lime rice or nimbu bhaath or elumichai sadam is flavoured rice with lime juice.  This is also known as one of the Chitrannams.

We make lot of rice preparations with lovely flavours viz. vegetable pulao, kichadi, okra rice, curd rice, lime rice, the list is endless.  In South side, varieties of rice are being made specially for the Aadi Peruku or Pathinettam Perukku during the month of Adi i.e. Mid July to Mid August.

 Lime rice is  very easy to make, can be served with papad, wafers etc.  If you have left over rice, it can be made easily.  what you need is green chilly, lime and curry leaves  in your hand.
