TENDER TAMARIND, WILD LIME, CURRY LEAVES CHUTNEY

Chutneys are good accompaniment for mild curries as well as for idli, dosa, chapati, phulkas and with hot steamed rice along with pure ghee.  various kinds of chutneys are prepared but this chutney is quite different from any other chutney.  Tender tamarind leaves, wild lime leaves and curry leaves are used in this chutney which is quite unique and tasty too.  It goes well with rice, idli, dosa, chapati and phulka as it is quite spicy.  Now the tender tamarind leaves are available, make use of this and enjoy this chutney.  I have already posted one chutney of tender tamarind leaves chutney.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1 cup tender tamarind leaves
1 cup wild lime leaves
1/4 cup curry leaves
15 red chillies
3 tbps chana dal
2 tbsp urid dal
1 tbsp white til
2-3 tbsp grated jaggery
1/2 coconut grated
1" piece ginger
4 garlic cloves
2 tsp salt
a generous pinch of cardamom powder
2 tsp oil

Method:

heat 1 tsp oil in kadai, roast the red chilli, chana dal, urid dal, white til add the garlic cloves and curry leaves and roast them too.  cool it.  In the same kadai add the tamarind leaves and saute till soft without heat.  the colour changes when you saute the same.  cool and grind all the ingredients together by adding little water.  If you want a thick chutney, do not add much water.  If you want the chutney bit watery, add water accordingly.
serve with idli, dosa, rice, chapati, phulka etc.
