JACK FRUIT SEED KHEER, JACK FRUIT SEED PAYASAM

Jack fruit seed kheer is very tasty and easy to prepare.  We make jack fruit kheer also.  The seeds can be used along  making mango, drumstick and make curry out of it, can be added to avial, make chips out of it.  It is a delicious kheer which can be served chilled.  see other posts in the blog of jackfruit and seeds.




Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

8-10 jack fruit seeds
1/2 cup grated jaggery
100 ml fresh cream or thick coconut milk
a pinch of cardamom powder
5-6 cashews broken into pieces.
1 tbsp bits of coconut (optional)
1 tsp ghee

Method:

After taking out the seeds from the bulbs, wash and dry it.  Take out the skin of jack fruit seeds including the brown skin.  pressure cook them for 3-4 whistles with little water.  drain the water and use this water for melting jaggery.  mash the seeds and keep aside.  after melting jaggery, remove impurities and add the mashed seeds in it and boil for 5 minutes, take out from gas and cool it.  add the coconut milk or cream, mix well.  fry the cashews and coconut bits separately.  add to the kheer, add the cardamom powder, mix well and refrigerate it for chilling.  serve chilled.
