Oats porridge, oats upma etc are made out of oats. This is good for people who are suffering from high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes. Apart from this, it is also good for digestion problems including irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, diarrhea, constipation. They are also used for preventing heart disease, gallstones, colon cancer and stomach cancer, joint pain (rheumatism), fatigue etc.
It is quite easy to make, filling and tasty too. Especially when you are adding some vegetables in it, it is more healthy.
Oats might help reduce cholesterol and blood sugar levels and control appetite by causing a feeling of fullness. Oats bran might work by blocking the absorption from the gut of substances that contribute to heart diseases, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Let us look at the recipe now:
Ingredients:
1 cup roasted oats
2 cups water
3/4 cup vegetables viz. carrots, beans, cauliflower, capsicum, fresh green peas, fresh corns etc.
1 tomato chopped
1 onion chopped
1 tsp sambar powder
a pinch of amchur powder
a pinch of hing powder
a pinch of turmeric powder
2 tsp oil
1 tsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
few curry leaves
1 - 2 tsp salt
Method:
Heat oil and ghee in kadai. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds. when it splutters, add the curry leaves. Now add onion and saute for a minute, add vegetables and saute for two minutes, add tomatoes and saute for another minute. add water, salt. mix the sambar powder and amchur powder in little water and add this too. bring to boil. now add the roasted oats (dry roast the oats in kadai), mix well, cover and cook till all the water is evaporated from it. In between check and stir. Serve hot with curd, pickle, papad.
Variation: You can make this with suji, broken wheat, sevai etc. Can also use tamarind pulp instead of amchur powder.
