VAZHATHANDU NEER MOR

Vazhathandu means banana stem or stalk you can call it has got many medicinal values and good for health.  The juice consumed in the empty stomach early in the morning helps to get rid of kidney stone problems.

We always add this to our menu once in a week.  We can make varieties of dishes out of this, however, this drink is quite good in quenching your thirst during the summer.

Let us look at the recipe now:


Preparation time: Less than 10 minutes
Yield : serves 1

Ingredients:

4 discs of vazhathandu
1/2 tsp ginger paste
2 tbsp curd
few  curry leaves
few coriander leaves and pudina leaves
1 cup of water.
salt
a pinch of black pepper powder and fennel powder

Tempering (Optional)

a generous pinch of mustard seeds
a generous pinch of hing powder
a generous pinch of cumin seeds
1/4 tsp oil

Method:

1.  Chop the vazhathandu finely.
2.  Put the vazhathandu, coriander leaves, pudina leaves, curry leaves, curd, ginger paste in the mixer  with little water and grind to a smooth paste.  If need add more water.
3.  Add the remaining water into this and pulse it for a minute.
4.  Strain it, add salt and mix.
5.  Temper with the ingredients mentioned under the tempering.
6.  This is absolutely optional, we can serve it without tempering also with black pepper powder and fennel powder.

How to serve:

serve chilled or as it is.

If you are serving without tempering add the asafoetida in it while grinding.
