FRUIT SAMBAR

Sambar is an item prepared by South Indian to serve along with rice, idli, dosa, uttappam, medu vada  etc.  The spicy tangy sambar can be made with various combination of vegetables and with certain fruits also.

You can also make the sambar with jackfruit, pineapple, nendran pazham, mango etc.

Here I am sharing with you a simple and easy sambar with fruits.  It tasted nice with rice, idli, dosa which I made on the same day.

You must be wondering idli and dosa together. Yes one child wants idli and another wants dosa. I preferred to have it with rice.  So three varieties I had to prepare to relish this fruit sambar.

1 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 red chilli broken
few curry leaves
a pinch of asafoetida

garnishing:

1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.

Method:

Take a kadai, add the tamarind pulp, 1 cup of water, bring to boil.  add the fruits, salt, turmeric powder and cook till they are soft.  add little water in the sambar powder mix well and add to the cooked fruits, bring to boil.  add the jaggery.  add the tur dal and allow to boil. remove from gas.  adjust the consistency by adding water according to your requirement as some people wants the sambar thick and some bit watery.

temper with the ingredients mentioned and garnish with coriander leaves.
