Everyday morning a question arises in our mind what to prepare for breakfast, lunch, dinner etc. Bored of Upma, Idli, Dosa, Kanda poha, Adai, Puttu etc Some changes are always required.
So tried this recipe as I was having half cup of sevai left in the packet. Added half cup poha and prepared this upma which was quite tasty.
Let us look at the recipe now:
Ingredients:
1/2 Cup Roasted sevai
1/2 Cup flattened rice / Poha / Aval
1-2 Green chilli (or as required)
Few Curry leaves
1 Medium size onion finely chopped
1 Tbsp Chopped beans
1 Tbsp Chopped carrots
1 Tbsp Chopped cauliflower
1 Tsp Carrot (Vegetables put as you wish)
1/2 Tsp Ghee
1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
1/2 Tsp Bisibele Bhath powder (masala) (link attached)
1 Tsp Salt
1 Cup hot water
1 Lime or 1 tsp tamarind pulp
Chopped coriander leaves.
Tempering:
1 Tbsp Til Oil
1 Tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 Tsp Urid dal
1/2 Tsp Chana Dal
A Pinch of asafoetida
Optional:
1 Tsp Cashew/1 Tsp Peanuts roasted
Method:
Step 1
Wash two to three times poha, drain water and keep aside.
Step2
Heat oil, add mustard seeds when it splutters, add urid dal and chana dal. Add green chilli, curry leaves, asafoetida, coriander leaves,add chopped onion, saute till translucent. Add the vegetables and saute for few minutes.
Step 3
Add roasted sevai, turmeric powder, salt and saute. Add hot water, cover and cook till the sevai is cooked. Add the poha, Lime juice, mix well, chopped coriander leaves, ghee, cover and keep for a minute. Add the roasted cashew and peanuts. switch off gas.
How to serve:
Serve hot as it is or with some raita, papad.
Note: If you are using tamarind pulp, add at the time of adding water.
