BHEL KURMURA UPMA

Upma is served for breakfast as well as in the evening along with a cup of tea or coffee.  We make various kinds of upma viz. suji, lapsi etc.  Since I was bored of eating the regular stuff, I thought of making the kurmura upma.  It is pending since long in my list so I tried this and was quite tasty.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Time taken: 30 minutes
serves: 1

Ingredients:

2 cups bhel kurmura
1 onion finely chopped
1 green chilli
3-4 beans finely chopped
1 tbsp green peas
1 small carrot finely chopped
1 tbsp grated coconut
1/2 lime
a pinch of turmeric powder
salt

Tempering:

2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urid dal
few curry leaves
a pinch of asafoetida

Others:  (Optional)

1 tbsp peanuts
1 tsp dalia (pottukadalai)
1 tsp broken cashews

Garnish:

Chopped coriander.


Method:

Put the kurmura in a colander and wash it and keep for draining the water.  Heat oil in kadai.  add the peanuts fry it, remove. add dalia, cashew, fry and keep aside.  Put the mustard seeds when it is done, add urid dal, curry leaves, hing powder.  After that add the  green chilli, onion, saute till it is brown. now add the vegetables and saute.  add the turmeric powder, kurmura, salt and mix well, cover and keep for 2 minutes. add the fried cashews, dalia, peanuts, coconut, and add lime juice, chopped coriander. serve hot.

How to serve:

Serve hot.  If you want, you can top it with grated cheese for the children.  or top it with chopped tomatoes, onions, sev etc.sevai-rava-upma.
