As I was thinking what to do? This idea came to my mind. When you are in a hurry to make sambhar for dosa or idli and do not have time to cook dal and make the sambhar elaborately, here is an easy way to make sambhar instantly. No need to cook dal separately. This sambhar can be made within 10 minutes.
It is not necessary that we should always prepare the sambhar with the dal, without that also we can make it.

3 medium size tomatoes
1/2 carrot or a small carrot
2 tbsp masoor dal
2tbsp sambhar powder
1 onion chopped
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
few curry leaves
a piece of jaggery
salt
Tempering:
1 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
few curry leaves
1 onion chopped
a pinch of asafoetida
Others:
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
Method:
Step1
Wash the masoor dal and grind it along with tomatoes, onion, curry leaves. Heat 2 tsp oil in kadai and add the mustard seeds when it is done add the puree in it and saute for 5 minutes continuously stirring.
Step 2
Add sufficient water, turmeric powder, salt, jaggery and bring to boil. Add water according to the consistency required as it becomes thick when it is cool.
Step 3
Heat oil in kadai. Add the mustard seeds, when it splutters, add the curry leaves, hing powder, chopped onion and cook till the onions are translucent. Add the red chilli powder and pour on the sambhar.
Garnish with the chopped coriander leaves and serve with idli, dosa, rice etc.

note: You can also cook the vegetables which are easily cooked viz. onion, capsicum, red or wite pumpkin, brinjal, etc. and add to the sambhar. I added capsicum, red pumpkin, drumstick. this can be cooked separately when the masala is sauted and then added to it.
