Banana stem has got many medicinal values and most of the people don't eat this. This is popular in South Side but in North I have seen very few people making a subzi out of this.
It is very good for those who are suffering from Kidney stones. Juice of this consumed in empty stomach helps to control the kidney stones.
We can make various dishes out of this and this Kadhi is awesome to drink as it is or with rice.
Ingredients: 300 gm Banana Stem 1/2 Cup Curd 1 Cup water
1 Small piece ginger
1 Green chilli
2 Garlic Cloves
1/2 Black Pepper and Cumin seeds crushed
Salt
Turmeric Powder 1 Tbsp Wheat flour or Gram flour
Tempering:
1 Tsp Oil,
1 Tsp Mustard seeds,
1/2 Tsp Cumin seeds,
Few Fenugreek seeds
Few Curry leaves
1 Red Chilli broken
A pinch of asafoetida
Garnishing:
Chopped Coriander leaves
Method:
Step 1
Cut the banana stem into roundels and remove the strings. Chop them and put in mixer with a cup of water and grind. Extract the juice.
Step 2
Whisk the curd and add to the juice. Add the flour and mix well.
Step 3
In a vessel add some water. Ginger, Garlic and Green chilli crushed. Add the Black pepper cumin crushed also. Bring to boil to remove the raw taste. Add turmeric powder, salt and mix well. Add the mixed juice and curd in it and simmer.
Step 3
Temper witht he ingredients mentioned under tempering and garnish with the chopped coriander leaves.
How to serve:
Serve as it is or with Rice, Kichadi etc.
