METHI KOFTA CURRY

Methi leaves are very good for health.  Methi seeds we soak it in water or butter milk and eat it as it is.  I have prepared methi sprouts subzi and soup too which is quite tasty and good for diabetic people.  Fenugreek and  leaves are having medicinal properties.  This helps in reducing cholesterol,  aids digestion, controls blood sugar level, helps counter acid reflux and heartburn, lose weight etc.

The leaves are used for making paratha, various curries and thepla etc.  I used a different method in making the koftas from the routine one.  Here I have used chana dal to make the koftas, you can also call it as methi fritters.  Instead of using the potatoes, I have used here the dal, onion, etc. and made the koftas.

Let us look at the recipe now:




METHI KOFTA CURRY

Ingredients:

1 cup fenugreek leaves chopped.
1/2 cup chana dal
1 tbsp tur dal
1 green chilli choppped (according to your spice level increase)
1 red chilli
generous pinch of hing powder
salt
1 onion finely chopped
oil for frying the koftas

Gravy:

1 onion finely chopped
1 tomato finely chopped
1 tsp pav bhaji masala or chole masala 
1 tsp ginger, garlic paste
1./2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp cream
1 tbsp coriander leaves

Method:

Koftas/fritters:

Wash and soak the chana dal, tur dal, red chilli for 1 hour.  Drain the water and grind to a coarse paste along with green chlly.  Add the onion, salt, hing powder, methi leaves mix well.  Make small koftas out of it and deep fry in the oil and keep aside.

Gravy:

Heat oil in kadai.  add the chopped ginger garlic paste, saute for few seconds.  Add the chopped onion,saute till transparent.  Add the tomatoes and cook till mushy.  add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, pav bhaji masala, mix well and cook it is dried up bit.   Add one cup of water, salt and bring to boil.  Adjust the consistency of gravy by adding water.  Mix in the cream.  serve hot with roti, phulka etc.  You will add the koftas only while serving in the hot gravy garnished with coriander leaves.

How to serve:

Before serving  add the koftas in the gravy. 

Note:  You can also have the koftas/fritters with a cup of tea/coffee.
