The Navratri festival is going on and I am bored of making
the usual Sundals with brown chana, karamani etc. Since I wanted to make something different, I
tried sabudana sundal and moong and banana fritters.
The Moong and banana fritters can be served as an evening
snack along with a cup of hot coffee or tea also. As I was cutting the banana for making
mezhukupuratti out of it, this idea struck me and immediately I soaked some
moongdal and tried this and it was
awesome.
Let us look at the recipe now:
Ingredients:
¼ cup
|
Moongdal
|
1/3 pc
|
Banana finely chopped
|
1 sprig
|
Curry leaves
|
1 tbsp
|
Coriander leaves chopped
|
1
|
Green chilli
|
1
|
Red chilli
|
Pinch of
|
Asafetida
|
Salt
|
|
Oil for frying
|
|
1 tsp
|
Coconut bits
|
Method:
Step 1
Wash and soak the moongdal for 15 minutes. Chop 1/3 of the raw banana into small pieces
and put in salt and turmeric water. This
is done to remove the stains from the banana.
Step 2
Wash the banana properly and set aside.
Grind the moong dal along with red, green chilli and half the curry
leaves to a coarse batter. Add banana, salt, hing powder, coconut bits, remaining curry
leaves chopped, coriander leaves and mix well.
If you want can add ½ tsp rice flour also for binding. ( I did not use)
Step 3
Make small balls
out of it (around 11 balls I made). Heat
oil and deep fry the same till golden brown.
Your moong banana fritters are ready.
How to serve:
Serve hot with chutney, sauce etc. along with a cup of
tea/coffee.
This can be used for neivedyam also during Navratri.
Note: Normal days, you can add onion if you wish.
